National Honor Society (NHS)

The NHS is an organization established to recognize students based on their scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Juniors and seniors are eligible for membership according to the NHS constitution. To be considered for membership, a minimum GPA of 3.5 is required for all candidates. Qualified students are selected for NHS membership by a majority vote of the faculty council at LHS or designee.

Active members must maintain the standards by which they were selected and meet the obligations of the chapter. Upon graduation, members become life members.

College Entrance Examination Board

Each year many of the students elect to take an Advanced Placement (AP) course which, upon testing, can be used to fulfill university/college requirements. AP classes are offered and AP nationally-standardized tests can be administered to interested students. Passing an AP test permits each student to receive at least three semester credits in the subject at the college or university of choice.

An extensive selection of tests can be taken by any student, though currently the only online, course-based instruction for AP course is in European History. Additional courses in the AP program will be added each year.
